Honorable DCM, Minister for Higher Education, IT & BT and minister for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship & livelihood and Pro-Chancellor of KSOU

In pursuance of National policy on Education(NPE 1986), the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) has been established to take higher education to the door steps of the higher education aspirants of the State. The Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system is increasingly gaining importance in the educational scenario as it gives freedom to learn ‘any time anywhere’.

The working professionals, households, the disadvantaged sections of the society and people from backward regions, who cannot pursue education through ‘in-class’/conventional mode get new opportunities to learn through distance education mode.

In the backdrop ICT intervention in education, the ODL system becomes even more important and its global importance is further emphasized in National Education Policy (NEP - 2019) importance of digital learning; online learning, as become imperative in the context of COVID19, where ODL system offers a new hope for internationalization of higher education.

The Karnataka State is a leading state in the higher education sector with a GER of 25.3% (for 2018-19, AISHE), the role of KSOU is vital in enhancing the GER of the state to much higher level. The KSOU has created an excellent academic and administrative infrastructure, not only at its headquarters in Mysore, but also at its 21 regional centers across the state.

As a major digital initiative and students support service during the troubled times of COVID19, KSOU has launched a student friendly KSOU student mobile app. It is commendable that the university is pro-active in its ICT initiative and is doing its best to re-establish its faith in ODL system, and is focusing on relevant curriculum, CBCS pattern, development of E-content, E-delivery, E-governance and in Skill-building, Training, Industry-University interface.

I am happy that the University is focusing on these digital initiatives which are relevant to the educational demands and is living up to its cherished goal – “Higher Education for Everyone Everywhere”.
